Have you seen Flesh and the Devil? Greta Garbo? Buster Keaton? Metropolis? Well, I bet you haven't seen "That Darn Bill", which was released just last year and is now being featured on Ifilm's website. Produced by my good pals Jim Vines and Robert Kelly. Jim also stars in the picture, reminiscent of the 20's silent era, and his performance makes me want to watch more Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin, which I am going to do right after this blog. It's a wacky tale of Marvin, chasing an illusive one hundred dollar bill all over town. Sounds more like a tale of everyday life for the average homo sapien of the new millennium, but it's in black and white and much of it runs in fast motion... Still sounds like an ordinary 21st century day for most of us. If you like, think of it as symbolism, but I rather crack up at the physical humor.
I found another priceless feature on DVD for a dollar today. Buster Keaton in "College". His name on the credits is at the bottom of the list, but he's definitely the star. I've always found Buster funnier than Chaplin. His serious scowl and absolute innocence as he places himself in the most daring and dangerous positions. He's utterly adorable. Well I'm going to test this darn link - "That Darn Bill"... Links you to IFilm's site where it's playing for free at 200k. Good Luck! I have found the fountain of youth. It is the constant flow of information.
Whenever I am feeling depressed, like my life is stagnating or going nowhere, it's usually because I'm not learning something new. In order to cheer myself up, I just pick up a new subject to learn about. Simple. The old saying, "Knowledge is Power" should be revised to "Knowledge is Power and Youthfulness" . I hear people say all the time, "Kids these days are so intelligent..." Well thank heavens for that, I mean, I wonder why they say this with no thought to the idea that they too, can expand their own horizons. As far as I know, there is no rule to how much knowledge you can obtain and nourish yourself with. In fact, I cannot stop myself from seeking more knowledge. I've come to realize that my absolute quest in life is to know... everything. It would seem that I suffer from OCQFK, Obsessive Compulsive Quest for Knowledge. If I ever reach that plateau of knowing it all, I would cringe. "That can't be all there is? NO! I must find more." And I figure, because I am innately researching everyday, every subject, finitely determined in our world, I am as young as I was the day I was born.
